{"id":56,"date":"2010-11-09T11:25:17","date_gmt":"2010-11-09T11:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitalchild.info\/\/?p=56"},"modified":"2010-11-09T11:25:17","modified_gmt":"2010-11-09T11:25:17","slug":"foxtel-on-the-xbox-360-a-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/randomadult.local\/foxtel-on-the-xbox-360-a-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"FOXTEL On The Xbox 360: A Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I read an article about 4 months ago how <a href=\"http:\/\/xbox.com.au\/GetFOXTEL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxtel.com.au\/xbox\/default.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FOXTEL<\/a> were partnering up so that you could stream <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxtel.com.au\/xbox\/default.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FOXTEL<\/a> via the xbox360. Seeing as my ISP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iinet.net.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iiNet<\/a> has launched an IPTV service that didn&#8217;t require a contract I started to research it a bit more, there are a lot of shows I watch and finding the channels I needed to cover the most number of shows was proving difficult if not impossible. Foxtel has traditionally been a contract based subscription service, they sign you up to 2-3 year contracts slogging you for $100+ a month for 80 channels of which 20 I actually want. iiNet&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iinet.net.au\/fetchtv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fetchTV<\/a> service was closer to what I wanted at the price I wanted but requires a $400 set top box and my housemate didn&#8217;t think it was worth it.<\/p>\n<p>The Xbox recently had a major system update that changed a bunch of stuff and today when I powered it up I noticed the FOXTEL app link and decided to check it out. No contract, packages at a decent price in a setup I liked. So I signed up and slapped down my $34.50 to give it a test run for a month. The channel selection is ok and based on a couple of hours of testing, it&#8217;s actually pretty good. It&#8217;s not as fast as switching on a set top box but for a streaming service I&#8217;ve not had a single buffering problem. Nice work FOXTEL and Microsoft.. I never thought I&#8217;d hear myself say those words. I&#8217;ll keep testing and report back at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>One thing to note its got advertising, so there is still room to improve.
